Siegenthaler Foundation: Supporting Young Medical Researchers at UZH
The Walter and Gertrud Siegenthaler Foundation has been promoting young medical researchers at the University of Zurich’s Faculty of Medicine since 2003. Each year, three awards are presented to outstanding junior researchers:a research fellowship, a science award, and a return grant.
Established in 2003 by Walter Siegenthaler, a distinguished physician and educator, the Walter and Gertrud Siegenthaler Foundation aims to support the academic careers of young researchers at the University of Zurich’s Faculty of Medicine and enhance the appeal of Zurich as a research hub.
The foundation annually awards three distinct prizes: a research fellowship for research stays in Switzerland or abroad, a science award for outstanding achievements in clinical or translational medical research, and a return grant for researchers returning to Zurich after a period abroad. The research fellowship is endowed with up to CHF 62,500 per year, while the science award carries a prize of CHF 20,000.
The foundation honors the legacy of Walter Siegenthaler, who was deeply committed to medical education and innovation. The awards are presented each year during the University of Zurich’s Dies academicus ceremony.
Applications for the awards must be submitted by December 1 each year.
