Duty to Recuse in Professorial Appointment Procedures
These regulations, which apply to all structural and appointment committees when filling professorships at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Zurich, specify the obligation to recuse arising from § 5a of the Verwaltungsrechtspflegegesetz (VRG) of 24 May 1959 and are intended to promote quality, equal opportunities and transparency in appointment proceedings.
The Faculty of Medicine is committed to gender balance in all university committees and to equal rights and opportunities for development.
From 2016 - 2019, the Faculty of Medicine implemented the "Search for women excellence" program to increase the proportion of women in professorial appointments. Specific measures were implemented in the appointment process to avoid stereotyping and unconscious gender bias.
