Ataman Sendoel Awarded ERC Consolidator Grant

Prof. Dr. med. Ataman Sendoel, Professor at the Institute for Regenerative Medicine at the University of Zurich, has been awarded an ERC Consolidator Grant for his project investigating protein synthesis in tumor-initiating cells. The project aims to uncover the mechanisms driving tumor growth and therapy resistance.

Tumor-initiating cells are key drivers of cancer progression and therapy resistance, yet how these cells regulate protein synthesis remains largely unknown. Prof. Ataman Sendoel’s project develops innovative technologies to measure protein production in individual cancer cells within their natural environment. The goal is to understand the mechanisms that sustain tumor initiation and resistance, and to identify vulnerabilities that could serve as targets for new therapies.

The project is funded through the highly competitive ERC Consolidator Grant program, which received a record 3,121 applications this year, with only about 11% successful. The University of Zurich stood out with nine funded projects.

The Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Zurich warmly congratulates Prof. Sendoel on this outstanding achievement and acknowledges his contribution to cutting-edge research in cancer biology and regenerative medicine.
